Both are durable cement-based pool finishes, but they look and feel different.

Quartz provides a smoother, more traditional pool surface. Colored quartz aggregate is blended into the cement, creating a durable finish with subtle color and variation. It is a great choice for homeowners who prefer a smoother feel and want to keep their resurfacing project more budget-friendly.

Pebble uses exposed aggregate to create a more natural, dimensional appearance. Mini Pebble uses smaller pebbles for a refined texture, while Micro Pebble + Glass incorporates very small aggregate and glass beads for an upgraded appearance and added shimmer.

In simple terms: Quartz = smoother and more economical. Pebble = more textured, dimensional and longer-lasting. Cementitious finishes can contain quartz, pebble, glass bead and other aggregates, and exposed-aggregate finishes also tend to show cosmetic irregularities differently than smooth-troweled finishes.

With proper startup, balanced water chemistry and regular maintenance, a quality pebble finish can commonly last 15 years or longer.

Water chemistry is especially important in Arizona. Improperly balanced water can contribute to scaling, etching, staining and premature deterioration of any cementitious pool finish. The National Plasterers Council specifically notes that proper startup and ongoing water chemistry are important to the longevity of a new interior finish.

Yes. In many cases, waterline tile can be replaced without installing a new pool interior. We typically drain the pool water, and then saw cut just underneath the waterline tiles then demo/chip out the waterline tiles as to not disturb the pool interior finish. Then we will prep the area for new tiles, install new tiles of your choosing, then fill pool back up with water.

We will inspect the existing interior surface first to make sure it is in suitable condition. If your pool surface is already nearing the end of its life, it may make more sense to complete the tile and resurfacing at the same time rather than draining and working on the pool twice.

Yes! Pool remodeling and resurfacing can be completed during the Phoenix summer.

Arizona's extreme temperatures do require additional consideration during certain phases of construction, so scheduling and installation procedures may be adjusted based on weather conditions. We will let you know if extreme heat or other conditions affect your project's schedule.

Your pool will begin filling immediately after the new interior is installed, but filling the pool does not automatically mean it is ready for swimming.

A newly resurfaced pool requires a proper startup process to balance the water chemistry and protect the new surface. Swimming should wait until the startup professional or pool service confirms that the water chemistry is within appropriate swimming ranges and the pool is ready for use.

Proper startup is particularly important during the first several days after filling; the NPC notes that plaster dust and early chemistry management can affect the appearance and long-term performance of the surface.

After your new interior is installed and the pool begins filling, the homeowner is responsible for arranging the required startup service with a qualified pool professional.
